ORTHO FOUR STATES STANDS UP TO NECK, BACK AND JOINT PAIN WITH ACQUISITION OF ONLY UPRIGHT WEIGHT-BEARING MRI SERVING JOPLIN MO, AND THE ENTIRE REGION
Our patients can now also be scanned sitting and standing, which provides better accuracy in detecting significant spinal and joint abnormalities and assistance in gaining insurance approval for treatment
Orthopaedic Specialists of the Four States (Ortho Four States) — the Four State Area’s largest and most comprehensive neck-to-toe orthopedic, spine, sports medicine, physical therapy, aquatic rehabilitation and interventional pain management care group and facility — announced today it is standing up for patients suffering from spinal and joint conditions, and neck and back pain, with the acquisition of the only upright weight-bearing MRI in the region.
“Laying down is the position most patients go to for relief from neck and back pain symptoms,” said Orthopedic Spine Surgeon Dr. Brian J. Ipsen, M.D. “This is why even high-definition supine MRIs, which take the weight and compression off the spine and joints, are often unable to detect debilitation pathologies.”
“There is nothing more frustrating for patients and their doctors than having an MRI not show the issues that are causing pain and a lack of function,” added Orthopedic Spine Surgeon Dr. Joseph Mark Graham Jr., D.O. “Patients often need their MRI to provide proof of a condition so their insurance will approve treatment.”
“Technology for treating the entire spine is moving rapidly,” said Orthopedic Spine Surgeon Dr. Toby G. Moore, D.O. “I am so proud to have joined the Spine Team at Ortho Four States. It’s exciting to be part of this entire care group and facility, which truly deliver on the promise to restore quality of life and offer the latest advancements for the betterment of patients.”
Ortho Four States’ new G-scan Brio sitting-and-standing upright weight-bearing MRI by Esaote will be used in conjunction with its existing high-definition supine MRI, which is the largest MRI enclosure available, accommodating more than 500 pounds.
“Our goal is to be able to offer the entire picture patients need to be properly diagnosed and treated,” said Kerri Williams, Director of Imaging Services. “The upright MRI won’t just benefit our spine patients. Our sports medicine and interventional pain management doctors as well as hip, knee, ankle and foot surgeons will now be able to see how weight is affecting their patients’ joints and anatomic structure during scans. This will undoubtedly help countless patients in our community.”
Ortho Four States Upright MRI has also been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) as the result of a review by the American College of Radiology (ACR). The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting the ACR Practice Parameters and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report that can be used for continuous practice improvement.
