Inpatient Surgical Procedures

We provide inpatient surgical care at our Southeast Kansas Specialty Hospital. Our fellowship-trained and board-certified surgeons use the latest surgical techniques and technologies. Types of surgeries performed include:

  • Urologic surgery – adrenal-gland surgery, bladder surgery, kidney and ureter removal, prostate removal, incontinence procedures, urinary stone removal, and other surgeries of the male and female reproductive organs
  • Gastrointestinal surgery – colonoscopy, endoscopy (esophagus, stomach and small intestine), liver biopsy, sigmoidoscopy and proctosigmoidoscopy
  • Orthopedic surgery – spine surgery, hip and knee surgery, upper-extremity surgery (shoulder, elbow, wrist and hand), foot and ankle surgery
  • Pain management procedures – epidural steroid injections, joint injections, nerve ablations and blocks, ganglion impar block (for pelvic pain) and other pain treatments and procedures

Outpatient surgeries and procedures are also performed on our campus at our Southeast Kansas Outpatient Surgery Center.

Physical Therapy Services

Our specialty hospital also offers physical therapy services in Galena at the region’s largest, most advanced facility. It features a full rehabilitation gym, a certified hand therapy clinic, athletic training programs and two HydroWorx aquatic therapy pools. Our physical therapists provide the care and support you need to get you back to your active life. Therapy plans focus on relieving pain, reducing swelling, building strength, restoring function, improving balance and coordination, and maximizing range of motion.

Galena Hospital Visitor Information 

Visitors bring emotional support and enhanced recovery to our patients. To provide a restful and safe environment, we ask that all visitors comply with the following guidelines:

 

  • Be considerate of other patients by keeping noise to a minimum.
  • Refrain from visiting if you have a cold, sore throat, or illness.
  • Observe “No Visiting” and precaution signs before entering a room.
  • Don’t smoke on our hospital campus.
  • Leave the room during tests or treatments if asked.
  • Feel free to use the seating areas in the main lobby and outdoor courtyard.

 

We offer the following amenities for the comfort of our patients, families and visitors:
 

  • Private rooms - all private rooms with independent temperature control, a spa robe, comfortable bedding, satellite television and an en suite bathroom with a granite sink
  • Onsite dining - The Red Onion Café Espressoria is our onsite restaurant and cafeteria with excellent dining options; open Monday - Saturday, 7 a.m. - 8 p.m.
  • Chapel - a stained-glass chapel with a quiet, comforting atmosphere, always open
  • Parking - Free parking is available near all hospital entrances
Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) Ratings

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services has released its latest hospital ratings, and Mercy Specialty Hospital Southeast Kansas received the highest ratings in the region, a five-star rating.

The five-star rating earned is the highest given by CMS, which re-evaluates hospitals annually using more than 100 measures divided into seven categories: mortality, safety of care, readmission, patient experience, effectiveness of care, timeliness of care and effective use of medical imaging.
