Physical Therapy Services at Mercy

We are always on the move – walking, running, working, playing and just getting things done. But things can grind to a halt when you are hit with pain, injuries, surgery or disease. Physical therapists are movement experts who use a variety of techniques and technologies to keep you moving, make daily activities easier and help you perform at your best.

Whatever is holding you back Mercy rehabilitation and therapy care can get you and your joints moving better and increase your flexibility, strength and balance. We look forward to getting you back on your feet and living the life you love.

Types of Physical Therapy

Physical therapy almost always includes exercise. It can include stretching, core exercises, weight lifting, and walking. Your physical therapist may teach you an exercise program that you can do at home. Your therapist will first work to reduce your pain and swelling, which may include manual therapy and the use of heat, cold, water, ultrasound and electrical stimulation to address various needs including:

  • Gait/walking issues
  • Balance deficits
  • Strength, endurance, and range of motion deficits that affect mobility
  • Transfer training
  • FES bike (functional electrical stimulation) for muscle re-education
  • Family education for functional mobility
  • Functional/work-related mobility needs

Conditions Treated by Physical Therapy

Physical therapy is used to treat a wide range of issues and disorders including:

  • Muscle, joint and back pain – and avoid the need for surgery or ongoing pain medication
  • Mobility, balance and preventing falls
  • Stroke recovery
  • Sports injuries and prevention
  • Diabetes and vascular conditions
